Hoʻōla Hou iā Kalauao is a community organization focused on restoring ʻāina and kānaka in the ahupuaʻa of Kalauao in ʻEwa, Oʻahu.

Our vision is to see a thriving and abundant ʻEwa moku beginning with the ahupuaʻa of Kalauao.

Our Mission

Our mission is to restore identity and abundance to Kalauao in ʻEwa, Oʻahu by caring for ʻāina; growing, preparing, and eating ancestral foods; and building community through education and the return to Native Hawaiian values and cultural practices.

Mahalo nui to @cbsnews journalist @liyakira who came to Oʻahu to learn more from experts and community members about issues affecting the wai (water) on our island.

Hoʻōla Hou iā Kalauao means to revive and to bring life again to Kalauao, an ahupuaʻa in ʻEwa, Oʻahu. We do this by caring for ʻāina; growing, preparing, and eating ancestral foods; and building community through education and the return to Native Hawaiian values and cultural practices.

Mahalo nui to those who came out to our 3rd Saturday community workday! It was an awesome mix of old and new faces. We took time to mālama the #kupukupu #ohai #ilima #kukui and other native plants by removing invasives that were coming up in the area. We also spent time clearing a māla (garden) space that will become a part of our new raised bed lāʻau garden.

Raising up the next generation of aloha ʻāina with pilina and kuleana to ʻEwa.

Aloha Lā Wāhine! Mahalo nui to all the mana wāhine who work to mālama Kaʻōnohi and bring the vision of Hoʻōla Hou iā Kalauao to life. While this reel highlights some, there are many more whose hana, pule, and encouragement carry us through. Aloha nui!! Grateful to each of you.

Mahalo nui to @mohsboysbasketball for coming out and putting in work!! We were able to move a pile of logs and branches from an #invasive tree that was cut down a few months ago, #hehi (stomp down) one of the loʻi, and trench an area of the farm where we are creating the ʻauwai system for “new” loʻi kalo. Uihā! We are on the move!

These huli #manaopelu and #ulaulamoano have the potential to feed our lāhui for generations, and, indeed, these #kupunakalo have.
